Time, she do fly

I've been hopping busy. I'm working hard at home, I'm working hard at work, I'm working hard, period. Enough about that.

Last night a few of us got together and made Artist Trading Cards. I had never heard of this until I saw a call for a show at the Richmond Art Gallery in British Columbia. I was intrigued; I made it our next workshop for the Texas Artists Coalition. Five of us sat there and talked and made these small cards - one woman had done it before and brought playing cards, which gives you the right size to begin with - 2.5 x 3.5 inches. You can make them very 2D or slightly or very much 3D, using any media; on paper or board or wood or fabric or whatever. You slip them in sleeves that the kids use for their trading cards and trade them with fellow artists. Very low-key, fun and sometimes funny. It was very relaxing. It's a way to get little bits of art in trade where you don't have a lot of money or time invested, but you give and get nice results.

I'm part of a couple of fundraising shows this summer and fall, so I've been making art for those. At least one of them I get a portion of sales, so that's nice. I'm doing some smaller works with pretty cheap frames for this one show - I can't afford anything else. Sometimes I get tired of giving works for auctions. I know that is why Arthouse in Austin does the 5 x 7 show - small works, and they provide the board, and there's no frame needed. The artist doesn't feel taken advantage of.

Despite being off my computer for a rebuild all day, I'm actually finally done for the day - a lot left undone, but it will still be there on Monday. Another great reception for the artists here at the FWCAC, a happy party in the Front Gallery, and a good show in the small theatre. So I'm going home happy, too.
